The word 'Viking' (pronounced "veeking") is synonymous with facing the
unknown with bravery, teamwork, companionship and persistence. This crest
design was developed for a search and rescue unit as the spirit and determination
of those early Viking explorers is also necessary to those who set out into
unknown territory, facing unknown challenges, determined to reach their goal
— a victim in need of help. The shield round connotes
'protectors', while the Viking ship and lower ribbon connote the
'exploration of the unknown'. The crest design incorporates, also, a
message meant to exhibit and instil pride.
